God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.
Somethings are not able to be changed. A child born without vision or ears, and addiction or terminal illness.
Change can still apply. People without vision or hearing can be productive and independent members of society. People with addictions, terminal or chronic illnesses, may not be healed, but they can make changes in their lives to move beyond, take the higher road or avoid the events that can cause harm to their health.
This same mind set of change applies to how we treat other people. We seek higher educations to be the best advocate or therapist for the people and families we treat. It is important to know what is changeable. It is important to know what has to be accepted. Even if a condition is able to be changed by our standards, this is not accepted by everyone, every family or every society.
This Serenity Prayer has much more meaning to me as I reach out to make a difference in the lives of those in my sphere of contact. I have to know the whole situation. I have to know, not only facts, but truths that may not be my own truths.
Any health care professional, volunteer or care taker, has a delicate, but possible responsibility. Liesa, not only teaches more than one way to treat toe walking, she also approaches other issues that could be causing toe walking, She knows what things she can change. She knows when the visual issue needs to be referred to the Optometrist. She knows what is beyond her reach or how to assist in recovery after a much needed surgery. She even reaches across the borders to be an example of love, compassion and encourage people to move beyond physical (or mental) limits.
Liesa is an example of “the courage to change the things I can” By seeking wisdom, we can all bring a little serenity to those in our reach. We know when to change and what to change. If you need to widen your practice, need to know more and different approaches, then be sure to check out the seminars available by Liesa Persaud.
